Truman E. Pierce, age 76 of Williamsport, died at 11:45 p.m. on Saturday, July 16, 2011 at St. Vincent Hospice in Indianapolis, IN. He had been in failing health the past year.
Truman was born in Sullivan County, MO on August 23, 1934. He was the son of Sherman and Mary (Bailey) Pierce. He graduated from Bolckow High School in Bolckow, MO where he lettered in basketball.
Truman served in the Navy on board the USS Yorktown. He was a member of the Wabash Valley Bible Baptist Church.
Surviving are, 3 children, Doncilla “Donnie” Riedel (husband: Alan) of Worthing, SD, Gerald “Red” Pierce (wife: Jan) of Lampe, MO and Gail Eves of Bakersfield, CA; sisters, Christina Harmon and Addie Jennings; brothers, Bill Pierce and Vernon Pierce; longtime friend and companion, Dorothy Cavanaugh of Attica, IN; grandchildren, Boo Pierce, Nick Pierce, Clair Riedel Hein (husband: Roger), and Alan Riedel, Jr. (friend: Beth); and great-grandchildren, Steven Riedel, Bailey Riedel, Morgan Hein, and Mason Hein. Truman was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Dorothy Brown.
Visitation will be at Wabash Valley Bible Baptist Church, Attica, IN on Friday, July 29, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. until memorial service time at 7:30 p.m. with Pastors John T. Adams and J. Dave Adams officiating. A memorial service will be held at a later date with full military honors at the Springfield National Cemetery in Springfield, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wabash Valley Bible Baptist Church.
