Monte W. Holder, age 54 of West Lafayette, IN died on Friday, August 24, 2007. Monte was born in Lafayette, IN on May 12, 1953. He was the son of Charles W. Holder and Wilma (Moyars) Mills. He was born and raised in Otterbein, IN and had resided in West Lafayette for the past 25 years. Monte was a 1972 graduate of Benton Central High School. He attended Shorter College in Rome, Georgia on a basketball scholarship and later attended Indiana State University in Terre Haute, IN. Monte married Suzanne Ice on July 1, 1980 in Otterbein, IN. She survives. Monte worked for Agri Builders and then Staley’s, which is now Tate & Lyle in Lafayette. He was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church. He was an outstanding ball player and had played for the Lafayette Generals football team. Monte was an avid Purdue fan. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and especially enjoyed his grandchildren. Surviving with his wife Suzanne, are his mother, Wilma Mills of Otterbein, IN; his father, Charles W. Holder of Apache Junction, AZ; 4 children, Brian Holder (wife: Heather) and Ashley Crow (husband: James) both of West Lafayette, IN, Chris Royal (wife: Shonda) of Flora, IN and Nikki Plummer (husband: Steve) of Otterbein, IN; 1 brother, Jeff Holder (wife: Tam) of rural Attica, IN; 1 sister, Tam Shidler (husband: Mike) of West Lafayette, IN; 8 grandchildren, Halle & Bella Holder, Ayla and Madison Crow, Devan and Seth Plummer, and Avery and Evann Royal; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Elaine and Kenny Foster of Otterbein, IN. Monte was preceded in death by his grandparents, mother-in-law, Patricia Ice, father-in-law, William Ice and aunts and uncles. Visitation will be at Otterbein United Methodist Church on Tuesday, August 28, 2007 from noon until service time of 1:00 P.M. EDT. Rev. David Smitley will be officiating. Interment will be at Pine Village Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Otterbein United Methodist Church or the Otterbein Public Library.
