Paul W. Herndon, age 83 of Williamsport, died at 4:20 A.M. on Monday, September 17, 2007 at St. Vincent Williamsport Hospital.
Paul was born in Missouri on June 27, 1924. He was the son of Walter F. and Grace I. (Laxson) Herndon. He was a Warren County resident most of his life. He attended Warren County schools. Paul married Vivian (Farrar) Green in 1962 and they later divorced.
Paul served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a combat medic and was awarded the Purple Heart decoration and several other honors and decorations. He worked as an ironworker and was a member of Iron Workers Local 379 Lafayette. Paul was a member of the VFW Post #3318 Attica and American Legion Post #259 Williamsport. He enjoyed farming, fishing, hunting, coin collecting, and knife collecting. He loved socializing with his friends at the VFW and going to the races at Kamp Motor Speedway in Boswell.
Surviving are, 2 sons, Matt Herndon of Williamsport, IN and Mark Herndon of Independence, IN; their mother, Vivian Farrar Green of Independence, IN; 2 sisters, Nancy Uyeda (husband: Fred) of Greenfield, IN and Martha Dispennett (husband: Robert) of Pine Village, IN; 9 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. Paul was preceded in death by his parents and 1 sister, June Arnold.
Visitation will be at Grady Funeral Home in Williamsport on Wednesday, September 19, 2007 from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. EDT. Services will be there in the chapel on Thursday, September 20, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. EDT with Evangelist Rob Dispennett officiating. Interment will be at Highland Cemetery with full military honors. Memorial donations may be made to the Miss Beason Scholarship Fund c/o Warren County Community Foundation or V.F.W. Post #3318 Attica.
