Dale Jackson, age 91 of Boswell, IN died at 3:05 A.M. on Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at Home Hospital in Lafayette, IN.
Dale was born in Owensburg, IN on January 9, 1917. He was the son of Hester and Lela (Wright) Jackson. He was a graduate of Owensburg High School in 1935. He then graduated from Central Normal with a bachelor’s degree and then received his Master’s of Education from Indiana State University in Terre Haute, IN. He lived in Boswell from 1940-1959 when he and his family moved to West Lebanon and resided there until returning to Boswell in 1968 and has lived there since that time. His first marriage was to the late Enid A. Sigler. They married December 1942 and she preceded him in death in September 1984. He later married Catherine “Kate” (Barrett) Finley in February 1986 and she preceded him in death in April 2006.
Dale served as a 1st Lieutenant Artillery in the Army during World War II and later during the Korean War. Dale first taught at Boswell High School and then became the principal for Grades 1-12 at Ambia. He has the distinction of being the first principal at Seeger High School and was there for 9 years. Before retiring he was the principal for grades K-6 at Boswell Elementary School. Dale was a member of the Boswell United Methodist Church and the F. & A.M. Lodge #352 West Lebanon. He enjoyed doing woodworking and coin collecting. He enjoyed spending his winters in Florida from 1978-1999.
Surviving are, 1 son, Stuart Jackson (wife: Della) of Springfield, IL; 1 daughter, Joetta Feuer (husband: Howard) of West Lafayette, IN; 1 step-son, Ed Finley (wife: Gloria) of Covington, IN; 2 brothers, Logan Jackson of AZ; and Fred Jackson of VA; 1 sister, Ruth Spoonmore of Bloomfield, IN; 9 grandchildren, Chad Feuer of CA, Ryan Feuer of Rhode Island, Stacy Jackson of New York and Kelly Dennison, IL, Troy Finley, Kim Evans,Tracy Mikalik, and Trent Lorton all of Indiana, and Mardell Rodriguez of Florida; and 16 great-grandchildren. Dale was preceded in death by 1 brother, Uland Jackson.
A celebration of life will be held from 9:00 A.M. until the memorial service time at 11:00 A.M. at Boswell United Methodist Church on Saturday, January 12, 2008 with Rev. Charles B. Anderson officiating. Interment will be at Boswell Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association.
