Russell L. Southard

Russell L. Southard, age 82 of Indianapolis, IN, formerly of Williamsport, died at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, April 22, 2013 at his residence. Russell was born on July 27, 1930 in Hillsdale, IN and was the son of Roy and Myrtle (Davies) Southard. He graduated from Hillsdale High School in 1948. On January 24, 1953 he married Mary E. McCray in Cayuga, IN and she survives. Russell served in the 3rd Infantry Division of the US Army from 1954-1956. He graduated from South Eastern Signal School in Ft. Gordon, GA and resided in Williamsport since 1958. Russell was a member of the Williamsport Christian Church where he was past chairman of the board and was very active in the affairs of the church. He was past president of the WCEA. Russell was a past board member of the Indiana Christian Children’s Home in Ladoga, IN and chairman of the Warren County American Cancer Society. He had worked at the Williamsport Community Hospital. Surviving with his wife, are, 2 daughters, Lynn Scheurich (husband: James) of Williamsport, and Melinda Gail Stinnett (husband: Randy) of Indianapolis, IN; 1 son, Richard Lee Southard (wife: Wendi) of Williamsport; 1 sister, Betty Rodriguez of Danville, IL; 3 grandsons; and 2 great-grandchildren. Russell was preceded in death by 6 sisters and 2 brothers. Visitation will be at the Williamsport Christian Church on Friday, April 26, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. until service time at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Don Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery with full military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to the Williamsport Christian Church Home Missions Fund.
