George H. Martin, Jr. age 78 of Williamsport, died on Thursday, May 1, 2008 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis due to injuries sustained in an auto accident.
George was born in Roselle Park, New Jersey on March 21, 1930. He was the son of George Henry Martin, Sr. and Ethel (Lucas) Martin. He was raised and lived most of his life in Williamsport. He attended Williamsport schools and then served in the U.S. Army. On February 10, 1958 he married Janice (Hockensmith) High in Holly Springs, Mississippi. She survives.
George worked for Alcoa in Lafayette for 36 years retiring in 1988. He was a member of the Williamsport Christian Church. He was a member of the VFW Post #3318 Attica and the Moose Lodge #1482 Attica. He enjoyed being outdoors and was a diehard Cub fan.
Surviving with his wife are, 1 daughter, Shelley Fenters of Lafayette; 2 stepsons, Philip High, Jr. (wife: Shirley) of Williamsport and Jerry High (wife: Carolyn) of Attica; 1 sister, Flora Lefton of Attica; 3 grandchildren, Richard Fenters, Reggie Fenters and Roxanne Fenters; 3 step-grandchildren, Krista Edstene, Michael High, and Philip High; 3 great-grandchildren and 6 step-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at Grady Funeral Home in Williamsport on Sunday, May 4, 2008 from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. EST. Services will be there in the chapel on Monday, May 5, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. EST with Rev. Bob Elness officiating. Interment will be at Highland Cemetery with full military honors.
