John R. Hollis, age 64 of Pence, IN died at 8:20 P.M. on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at Clarian Health Methodist Hospital. He had been hospitalized for the past month.
John was born on January 17, 1944 in Terre Haute, IN. He was the son of John E. and Keturah (Roller) Hollis. John was a graduate of Wiley High School in Terre Haute. He had been a resident of Warren County for most of his life. On March 19, 1971 he married Dorothy L. Hart in Hedrick, IN. She survives.
John worked for Harrison Steel Casting Co. in Attica; he later worked at Purdue University, Attica High School and Grab It Here Grocery in Attica. He was a member of the Hedrick Church of God where he played the piano and was a past deacon. John enjoyed mowing yards for local residents. He loved music and was a volunteer at the Woodland Manor Nursing Home, the Waters of Williamsport, and the Warren County Home playing the piano and accordion for the residents and staff. He also enjoyed drawing and western movies and novels.
Surviving with his wife are, 4 children, Karen Cheatwood (husband: Tony) of West Lebanon, IN, Kevin Hollis (wife: Mandy), serving in the U.S. Navy, Ben Hollis (wife: Marsha) of Brownsburg, IN, and Rebekah Hollis of San Diego, CA; 1 sister, Thurza Hollis of Terre Haute, IN; and 6 grandchildren, Andrew Cheatwood, Zachary Cheatwood, Kenan Cheatwood, Kyle Cheatwood, Hope Hollis, and Isabella Hollis. John was preceded in death by an infant sister, Karen Annette Hollis, and his parents.
Visitation will be at Grady Funeral Home in Williamsport on Friday, May 23, 2008 from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. EDT. Services will be on Saturday, May 24, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. EDT at Hedrick Church of God with Pastor Joe Astolfi officiating. Interment will be at Jordan Cemetery in Pence, IN. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hedrick Church of God Deacons Fund.
