Richard "Shad" D. Wagner

Richard “Shad” D. Wagner, age 86 of Williamsport died at 8:30 A.M. CDT on Sunday, May 25, 2008 at the VA Illiana Health Care System in Danville, IL. Richard was bon on April 17, 1922 in Williamsport, IN. He was the son of Harry and Lucy G. (Fenters) Wagner. He was a lifelong resident of Williamsport. He graduated from Williamsport High School in 1940. On February 2, 1946 he married Alta M. Kennedy in Covington, IN. She survives. Richard was a World War II veteran serving in the Army Air Corp. He worked as a postal worker for 31 ½ years retiring in 1972 and later worked for the Indiana State Highway Dept. retiring from there in 1982. Richard was a member of the Williamsport United Methodist Church. He was very active in the American Legion Post #259 and VFW Post #3318 Attica. He was a past district commander of the American Legion and served as the chaplain for the past 20 years. He was a former volunteer fireman for Williamsport and served as a score keeper for Williamsport schools for 18 years. Richard also served on the Appeals and Liquor Board of Warren County and was a member of the F & AM Lodge #315 Pine Village. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving with his wife, Alta, are, 3 sons, Thomas Wagner of Williamsport, Terry Wagner (wife: Kim) of Williamsport, and Tim Wagner (wife: Helen) of Kenosha, WI; 1 brother, Robert Wagner of Williamsport; 8 grandchildren, Tracy, Chan, Bobby, Trent, Tammy, Tait, Tonya, and Tanna; and 15 great-grandchildren. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, and 1 brother, Morton Wagner. Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at Grady Funeral Home in Williamsport from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. EST with F & AM Lodge services at 7:45 P.M. Services will be there in the chapel on Thursday, May 29, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. EST with Rev. Charles B. Anderson and Pastor Cathy McCoy officiating. Interment will be at Highland Cemetery with full military honors. Memorial donations may be made to the donor’s choice.
