Dr. Frederick Stanton Martin, DVM, age 61 of Covington, IN died at 9:22 P.M. on Monday, July 21, 2008 at Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis, IN. Fred was born on September 14, 1946 in Danville, IL. He was the son of Edward R. and Helen (Stanton) Martin. He was a lifelong resident of Covington. He was a 1964 graduate of Covington High School and Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1971. On March 10, 1976 he married Dotty Claypool Alexander in Johnsonville, IN. She survives. Fred owned and operated Martin Veterinary Clinic in Covington since 1971. He also was the registered environmental health specialist at the Fountain and Warren County Health Department. He was a member of the Covington United Methodist Church, the F. & A.M. Fountain Lodge #60 Covington, Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute, Western Indiana Shrine Club, Zorah Shrine Temple Terre Haute, American Veterinary Medical Association, and the Purdue Alumni Association. Surviving with his wife, Dotty, are, 3 children, Tyler Stanton Martin (wife: Heather) of Covington and their son, Nash Stanton Martin; Bret Alexander (Angela) of Covington, and their children, Dane Alexander, Ty Montgomery and Kirsten Montgomery; Troy Alexander (wife: Kathy) of Covington, and their children, Sean Alexander, Bryan Brewer, Tommy and Jennifer Simison; brother, Dr. E.J. Martin (wife: Martha) of Covington and their children, Angela Rager (Jason) of Bloomington, IN and their son, Zachary Stanton Rager; and Brian Martin (Becky Nixon) and their children, Ella Martin and Coy Martin; and mother-in-law, Mary Claypool of Covington. Visitation will be at Sterling Christian Church in Veedersburg on Thursday, July 24, 2008 from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. EDT with F & AM services at 8:00 P.M. with 33rd degree Scottish Rite services to immediately follow. Please join friends and family of “Doc” Martin for a celebration of his life to be held from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Saturday, July 26, 2008 at the Western Indiana Shrine Club. The Western Indiana Shrine Club is located 9 miles south of Covington on Stringtown Road. Memorial donations may be made to the Covington Community Foundation or the Shrine Children’s Hospital.
