Betty R. (Patton) VanLeer, age 90 of Johnsonville, IN died at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at the St. Vincent Williamsport Hospital.
Betty was born in Brooksville, OH on September 27, 1923. She was the daughter of Cecil H. and Mabel (Cunningham) Patton. She attended West Lebanon schools and was a Warren County resident most of her life. On January 31, 1942 she married Francis Leo VanLeer in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. He preceded her in death on July 24, 1997.
Betty cleaned homes and was a cook at the Marshfield grade school to earn a living. She was also a cook at the Redwood Inn in Danville, IL and the Covington Nursing Home. She was a housewife and farmed with her husband. She was a member of the Williams Chapel in Johnsonville, IN. Betty enjoyed cooking, crocheting, crafts, and her family.
Surviving are, daughter, Lana Decker (Richard Fields) of Williamsport, IN; sister, Willa Jordan of Williamsport, IN; 2 granddaughters, Kari Hernandez (husband: Thomas) and Darcy Decker (Aaron Senesac); 3 great-grandchildren, Ethan Hernandez, Laci Craven, Zakk Craven; and 1 great-great-granddaughter, Rylee Craven.
Visitation will be at Grady Funeral Home in West Lebanon, IN on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Services will be there in the chapel on Thursday, May 8, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jay Richey officiating. Interment will follow at West Lebanon Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Williams Chapel.
