James J. Garriott

James “Jim” J. Garriott, age 87 of Williamsport, died at 9:45 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at The Waters of Williamsport. Jim was born near Rensselaer, IN on April 13, 1921. He was the son of James Roscoe and Nancy (Hopkins) Garriott. He attended Warren County schools. He married Margaret Miller on May 21, 1948 at the Williamsport United Methodist Church. She survives. They lived in Locust Grove community for 38 years moving to Williamsport in 1993. Jim served in the United States Army during World War II from 1942-1946 serving in New Guinea and the Philippines. He was a member of the Williamsport United Methodist Church, the VFW Post #3318 Attica, and the American Legion #476 Boswell. Jim was a farmer all of his life and enjoyed farming with his son, Jim. He enjoyed his children and grandchildren and loved to visit with everyone. Surviving with his wife, Margaret, are 3 children, Margy Garvais (husband: Phil) of Marrietta, GA, James Joe Garriott (wife: Rita) of Boswell, IN, and Penny Leuck (husband: Gene) of Lafayette, IN; sister, Laverne Fix (husband: Fay) of Williamsport; brother, Billie Garriott (wife: Ida) of Fowler, IN; 9 grandchildren, Kem Fox, Nancy Little, Katy Garriott, Frank Thrift, Erin Thrift, Jennifer Greeson, Jim Leuck, Dan Leuck, and Abigail Leuck; and 9 great-grandchildren. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Kathy Booth, 5 sisters, and 2 brothers. Visitation will be on Friday, October 3, 2008 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. EDT at Grady Funeral Home, 111 E. Monroe St., Williamsport, IN. Services will be there in the chapel on Saturday, October 4, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. EDT with Pastor Cathy McCoy officiating. Interment will be at Locust Grove Cemetery with full military honors. Memorial donations may be made to the Williamsport United Methodist Church or the Locust Grove United Methodist Church.
