Lawrence E. “Sonny” Verhey, age 41, of Chattanooga, TN, formerly of Williamsport, IN, died on Sunday, October 5, 2014.
Sonny was born on November 22, 1972 in Lafayette, IN. He was the son of Everett Verhey and Lameta (Simonton) Verhey Smart. He attended Fountain Central School and graduated from Attica High School in 1990. He was raised in Stone Bluff, IN until moving to Attica, IN in 1984. He then moved to Williamsport, IN in 2000 where he resided until moving to Chattanooga in July 2013. On October 23, 1998 he married Tina (McClure) Stull in Covington, IN and they later divorced.
Sonny worked for Attica Ice Company, TMF Center and most recently Road Tec in Chattanooga, TN as a line supervisor. He enjoyed Nascar racing and Dale Earnhart, Sr. was his favorite driver. He enjoyed his dogs, Peyton and Bailey and especially loved his daughter, Kendra.
Surviving are, 1 daughter, Kendra N. Verhey of Williamsport, IN; mother, Lameta Smart (companion: James W. ) of Brazil, IN; 1 step-daughter, Josie L. Gann of Williamsport, IN; step-father, Darrell W. Smart of Williamsport , IN; siblings, George D. Verhey (Tina) of Newtown, IN, Geneva S. Lynn (Chris) of Williamsport, IN, and Lori J. Verhey of Williamsport, IN; step-sister, Janette Stone of Attica, IN; and several nieces and nephews. Sonny was preceded in death by his father, Everett Verhey, paternal grandparents, Ralph and Mable Verhey, and maternal grandparents, Howard & Eula Simonton.
Visitation will be at Grady Funeral Home in Williamsport on Saturday, October 11, 2014 from 11:00 a.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Rich Stoll officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Attica, IN. Memorial donations may be made to Paws-n-Claws or his daughter, Kendra Verhey.
