Eric Lynn Stephen

Eric Lynn Stephen, age 65 of Miami, FL passed away October 23, 2014 at Kendall Baptist Hospital in Miami, FL. He had battled cancer for three years. Eric was born August 2, 1949 in Boswell, IN. He was the son of Wayne H. and Hilda (Chastain) Stephen. He later moved with his family to the Williamsport farm area where he grew up and worked on the farm. He was a 1968 graduate of Seeger High School and a graduate of Indiana State University. He finished his Master’s Degree at Miami University in FL and Florida International University. He was an instructor for over thirty years in one of Miami, FL’s largest middle schools. After retirement he bought and rented homes in Miami, Key Largo, and Orlando, FL area near Disney World. He was a member of the Hickman Heights Christian Church. While in high school he played on the 1967 basketball sectional champs team of Seeger High School. Eric enjoyed working with wood and was a buyer and seller of antique furniture. He also was an avid water sports enthusiast including water skiing, barefooting, riding wave runners and boating. He enjoyed teaching others what he had learned over the years. His surviving family includes his mother, Hilda Stephen of Williamsport, IN, 2 brothers, Dennis (Mickey) Stephen of Williamsport, IN and Terry (Carolyn) Stephen of Marshall, IL, and a step-nephew, Joseph Palma, who was considered his son. He had taken care of him since he was 5 years old and he still lives in his home and has helped care for his uncle. Other nephews are Travis (Shannon) Stephen and Mark (Kris) Stephen both of Williamsport, IN, Aaron (Farrah) Stephen of Greenwood, IN, Derek (Alisha) Stephen of Lafayette, IN, Ryan (Melissa) Stephen of Kahului, HI. He had two nieces, Renee (Jon) Petrie of Lafayette, IN and Angela (Tony) Martinez of Coral Gables, FL. He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Reggy H. Stephen. Visitation will be at Grady Funeral Home in Williamsport on Friday, October 31, 2014 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Services will be at Hickman Heights Christian Church on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastors Dave Keeton and Gerald Burt along with nephew, Mark Stephen performing the service. Interment will follow at Boswell Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hickman Heights Christian Church or the American Cancer Society.
