William “Bill” D. Byrd, age 74, an Oxford residence since 1975, passed away Thursday, November 13, 2014 at Cumberland Pointe Health Campus in West Lafayette, IN.
Bill was born September 21, 1940 in Greencastle, IN and grew up in Roachdale where he helped with the family farm. He graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Agriculture in 1963. Bill served his country as a member of the Army Reserve. Bill was a review appraiser for the Indiana State Highway Commission before becoming a Certified General independent fee appraiser throughout the state of Indiana for a total of fifty years specializing in farm appraisals.
Bill served his community as a member of the Oxford Town Council for eight years, the Oxford Library Board for sixteen years, the Oxford Lions Club, the Benton County Area Planning Commission, and as Assistant Scoutmaster for Fowler Boy Scout Troop #301. Bill was recently awarded the fifty year pin by Pine Village Masonic Lodge #315.
Bill enjoyed camping with the Gathering of A-frames and the Aliner Owners’ Club as well as spending time with his family and friends. He leaves behind his wife of forty-eight years, Karen, as well as his daughter, Lisa Byrd Coleman (husband: Edward), and son, Brian David Byrd (wife: Karen T.) and two grandchildren, Nathan Dennis Coleman and Cora Josephine Byrd.
Graveside rites will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at Justus Cemetery in Oxford, IN. Memorial contributions may be made to Benton County Cancer Society, Oxford Public Library, or the Pine Village Masonic Lodge #315.
