Genevia M. (Courtney) Mathews

Genevia M. (Courtney) Mathews, age 97 of Wiliamsport, died at 6:30 a.m. EST on Sunday, December 14, 2008 at her residence. Genevia was born in Danville, IL on May 17, 1911. She was the daughter of William A. and Sallie (Parks) Courtney. She attended Ambia School. She was a lifelong Warren County resident. On August 12, 1929 she married Bert Mathews in Fowler, IN. He preceded her in death on August 6, 1984. Genevia was a housewife. She attended the Williamsport Christian Church. Previously while living on the farm she attended Judyville United Methodist Church and Pence United Methodist Church. She was a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and current member of O.E.S. Chapter #162 West Lebanon. She was a former member of the Pence United Methodist Church Ladies Aid and Bunko club. She enjoyed word search puzzles. Surviving are, 4 children, Barbara Joanne Thomas (husband: Austin) of Williamsport, IN, Donald W. Mathews of Attica, and Larry Mathews (wife: Becky) and Tom Mathews, both of Williamsport, IN; 1 brother, Bill Courtney of Indianapolis, IN; 26 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren. Genevia was preceded in death by her husband, 3 sons, Richard, Bob, and Bill Mathews, 2 sisters, Marguerite Gaddis and Ida McDaniel, daughter-in-law, June Mathews, and granddaughter, Mary Kay Mathews. Visitation will be at Grady Funeral Home in Williamsport on Tuesday, December 16, 2008 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. EST with OES services at 7:45 p.m. Services will be there in the chapel on Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. EST with Rev. Don Williams officiating. Interment will be at Jordan Cemetery in Pence. Memorial contributions may be made to the Williamsport Christian Church or the Judyville United Methodist Church.
