Vera M. (Balensiefer) Phelps, age 95 of Williamsport, IN died at 3:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at St. Vincent Williamsport Hospital.
Vera was born in Remington, IN on October 30, 1919. She was the daughter of Henry and Pearl (Demiere) Balensiefer. She attended grade school in Fowler where she resided till her marriage when she moved to Warren County. She was a graduate of St. Francis High School. She married Herbert “Jack” Phelps on October 5, 1940 in Fowler, IN and he preceded her in death.
Vera was a member of Hedrick Assembly of God where she was an active singer in the church. She loved music and enjoyed writing poetry and playing board games. She was famous for her homemade pies. Her family was important to her and she enjoyed being with them.
Surviving are, 1 son, Gerald L. Phelps (wife: Vanda) of Covington, IN; 1 daughter, Sherrie A. Phelps of Phoenix, AZ; 2 sisters and 2 brothers, Theresa Rottler-Arbuckle of Lafayette, IN, Carol Bryant of South Bend, IN, Wayne Balensiefer of Tucson, AZ, and Larry Balensiefer of Tucson, AZ; 6 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren. Vera was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Sister Roberta “Leona” Balensiefer, Mellie Cook, and Marie Vaughan, 3 brothers, Joe Balensiefer, Frank Balensiefer, and Ron Balensiefer, and 1 son and daughter-in-law, Jack R. and Beckie Phelps.
Visitation will be at Grady Funeral Home in Williamsport on Monday, April 6, 2015 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Services will be held there in the chapel on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastors Harold Varner and Phillip Bilyeu officiating. Interment will follow at West Lebanon Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Warren County Emergency Management or Hedrick Assembly of God.
