Elgart “Big Al” Martin age 74, of West Lebanon, IN, died at 4:50 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at St. Vincent Heart Center in Indianapolis, IN.
Al was born on August 14, 1940 in Ludington, WI. He was the son of Elgart H. and Ada A. (Dudenhoffer) Martin. He graduated from Thorton Fractional North in Calumet City in 1958. He also attended Purdue University in Hammond, IN. Al married Iva M. Clark and they were married for 30 years. He lived in Wisconsin until the age of 13, lived 2 years in Chicago and Calumet City. He moved to Dyer, IN where he resided for over 30 years before moving to Warren County in 2001. He is survived by his loving companion, Donna Sullivan, of West Lebanon, IN.
Al was a general contractor for 16 years in Hammond, 22 years at Cargill in Chicago, and most recently self employed at Martin Construction. He was a member of Abate, NRA, Warren County Historical Society and the PAC. He served on the Independence Heritage Committee, and was a volunteer at the Warren County and Fountain County Senior Centers and the Warren County Chamber of Commerce. He enjoyed motorcycling, keyboarding, singing, fishing, golfing, bowling, farming, berry picking and writing for Little Bit.
Surviving are, xhildren, Blane Martin (Sandee) of New Haven, KY, Eric Martin (wife: Denise) of Cedar Lake, IN, Melanie Martin (Steve) of Schereville, IN, Janelle Guerrero (Victor) of Redlands, CA, and Jessica Corral (Jose) of Valparaiso, IN; siblings, Marlene Wright (John) of Kent, WA, Sammy Hagedorn (Ruth) of Wassau, WI, Bonnie Jarzyk (Felix) of Naples, FL, Richard Martin of Neoga, IL, and Hope Mannion of New Hampshire; and 5 grandchildren, Nicholas Martin, Krystle Martin, Jaelynne Corral, Aiden Corral, and Liana Guerrero. Al was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Mae Breton, and brother, Kenneth Martin.
Visitation will be at Grady Funeral Home in West Lebanon, IN on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 from 11:00 a.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at West Lebanon Cemetery.
