Merl Melvin Lechlitner Sr. age 90 of Mishawaka died at 2:36 a.m. on Sunday, January 04, 2009 at the home of his grandson, Glen and Dawn Lechlitner of rural Williamsport.
Merl was born on September 4, 1918. He was the son of Jasper and Dora Walker Lechlitner. He was a 1936 graduate of Bristol High School and was a Mishawaka resident for most of his life. On February 28, 1942 he married Thelma Louise Whybrew. She preceded him in death in 1976. He married Rosaline Hixenbaugh on April 3, 1977. She survives.
Merl had worked for over 30 years as a tool & die maker for Penz Tool & Die in Mishawaka. He was a member of the Mishawaka’s Pilots Club. Merl enjoyed rock hounding, jewelry making, and any craft he was interested in he would do it.

2 daughters, Marla Dorene Bateson (husband: Philip) of Mesa, AZ, and Adelaide Toka Blume (husband: Jack) of Zephyrhills, FL
3 stepsons, John Hixenbaugh, Joseph Hixenbaugh, and Jules Hixenbaugh

Merl was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Louise Whybrew, son, Merl Melvin Jr., and a stepson, James Hixenbaugh.
Per Merl’s wishes cremation was done and a scattering of ashes will happen at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Elizabeth Hospice,1415 Salem St. #202W Lafayette, IN 47904.
