Dorothy Mae Asbury, age 80 of Lafayette, IN, formerly of Williamsport, IN passed away at 4:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at St. Anthony Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Lafayette, IN. She had resided at St. Anthony Healthcare for several years, residing in Williamsport and West Lebanon in the prior years.
Dorothy was born on July 29, 1935 to Wesley and Lois (nee-Carter) Asbury in OK. When Dorothy was 12 years of age, her family was involved in a tragic car accident. Both parents were killed and Dorothy was in a coma for 1 year at Riley Hospital. When she was released, her aunt and uncle, Vera and Lloyd “Jack” Asbury took her into their home.
Dorothy attended school in Boswell, IN. She later helped in the home by helping to raise her two nephews, Michael and Robert Asbury. She also cared for her niece, Debra Asbury. Dorothy enjoyed watching sports and old movies on TV, playing cards, jigsaw puzzles and puzzle books. She also loved her family’s dogs and many cats.
Dorothy is survived by her guardian nephew, Robert (wife: Lisa) Asbury and niece, Debra Asbury, all of Lafayette. She is also survived by a niece, Tina Crawford of NC and nephew, Mark (wife: Kathleen) Asbury of CA. A very special great nephew, co-guardian, and his family also survive, Ryan (wife: Beth) Asbury, along with their sons, Brandon and Brent, of Michigan. She is also survived by four great nieces and their families.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, Wesley and Lois Asbury, her aunt and uncle, Vera and Jack Asbury, her sister, Mary, her brother, Walter, and a nephew, Michael.

Private graveside services will be at West Lebanon Cemetery at a later date.
