Ruth E. (Hudson) Kelp, age 80 of Pine Village, IN died at 1:15 am EDT on Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at St. Anthony Health Care Center in Lafayette, IN.
Ruth was born in Somerset, KY on March 15, 1929. She was the daughter of Alonzo “Lonnie” and Lula (Bolin) Hudson. She attended Boswell and Pine Village schools. She married Kenny Kelp in Pine Village in April 1977. He survives.
Ruth worked as a secretary for the police chief in Fort Myers, FL for 28 years and then the Cape Coral, FL police chief for 17 years. After her marriage she worked for Purdue University for 12 years and then for her daughter, Dinah who was a free lance court reporter. She enjoyed reading and latch-hooking rugs. She loved watching and feeding the birds and working in her yard. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and was past worthy matron for the chapter in Fort Myers, FL, and past president on National Secretaries Association. She loved her little dog, Dolly, and especially loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving with her husband are, 1 daughter, Dinah Nelson (husband: Donald) of Raleigh, NC; 8 grandchildren, Kimberli Miller (husband: Craig) and Dana Nelson both of Raleigh, NC; Tracy Moore (husband: Rob) of Attica, IN; Kayleigh Kelp of Rainsville, IN; Twins Madison and Taylor Kelp of Battle Ground, IN; Brent Hudson (wife: Shelly) of Pine Village and Misty Hudson of Lafayette, IN; 5 great-grandchildren, Harrison and Justin Miller both of Raleigh, NC; Cameron Moore, Morgan Hudson and Jorja Hudson; and 3 step-children, Brenda Dayhuff (husband: A.J.) of Pine Village; Peggy Brummett of Pine Village; and Steve Kelp (companion: Michelle Davis) of Williamsport. Ruth was preceded in death by 1 brother, Talmedge Hudson, 2 sisters, Gertrude Fisher and Geneva Workinger.
Visitation will be at the Pine Village United Methodist Church on Saturday, March 28, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. EDT until memorial service time at noon with Pastor Mike Link officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Parkinson’s Disease Foundation.
