Ronald "Ron" M. Strickland

Ronald “Ron” M. Strickland, age 80 of rural Williamsport, IN died at 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at St. Vincent Williamsport Hospital. Ron was born on September 26, 1935 in Danville, IL. He was the son of the late Ralph M. and Pauline G. (Coon) Strickland. He was raised in Hedrick, IN and a 1953 graduate of Williamsport High School. He married Sharon Freeland on May 8, 1954 in Attica, IN and she survives. Ron served in the US Army from August 25, 1954 through August 25, 1956. He then lived in Williamsport until 1959 and after a career in the railroad for New York Central, Penn Central, Conn Rail, and EJ & E he returned to Warren County upon his retirement in 1993. He had served as manager of movement and distribution at Kirk Yard in US Steel. He served as the Veterans Service Officer for Warren County the past 15 years. Ron was a member of the Pence United Methodist Church and an active member of both the American Legion Post West Lafayette and VFW Post #3318 Attica. He was a 50 year member of the West Lebanon and Pine Village F & M, and also was a Scottish Rite thirty second degree, and Shriner. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his son, Tony, tinkering in his shop and his Carbondale country life. He enjoyed hosting his bi-annual hog roast and maintaining his property. Ron was an avid follower of the Purdue women’s basketball team. Surviving with his wife, Sharon, are 2 children, Terri Strickland of Brownsburg, IN and Tony Strickland (Michelle) of St. John, IN; 1 sister, Bette Scherette of Williamsport, IN; 2 grandchildren, Allesandra and Larissa Strickland; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at Grady Funeral Home in Williamsport, IN on Friday, January 1, 2016 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. with Masonic services at 7:45 p.m. Services will be there in the chapel on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Dave Keeton officiating. Private interment will follow at Jordan Cemetery in Pence, IN at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the VFW Post #3318 Attica or the Alzheimer’s Association.
