Joseph D. Land, age 82 of Attica, died at 3:40 am EDT on Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at The Waters of Williamsport. Joseph was born near West Lebanon, IN on November 17, 1926. He was the son of Samuel and Helen R. (Kennedy) Land. Joseph was a Warren County resident most of his life. On December 7, 1944 he married Betty L. Beavers in Covington, IN. She preceded him in death on April 24, 2009. Joseph served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked for RMC in Attica as a security guard for 4 years retiring in 1988. Prior to working for RMC he worked for Harrison Steel Casting Co. in Attica for 34 years. He was a member of the West Lebanon Church of the Nazarene. He enjoyed flower gardening, music, and mushroom hunting. Surviving are, 2 daughters, Betty Jo Poppino (husband: John) of Indianapolis and Cathy J. Shamp of TN; 2 sons, Daniel D. Land (wife: Betsy) of Attica, IN and Ronald E. Land of Lafayette, IN; 3 brothers, Walter Land of Florida, Jerry Land (wife: Bobbie) of West Lebanon, and Roy Land (wife: Ruth) of Danville, IL; half-brother, Larry Land of Westville, IL; sister, Mable Geiger (husband: Morris) of Crawfordsville, IN; 14 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 3 brothers, and 3 sisters. Visitation will be at Grady Funeral Home in Williamsport on Saturday, May 16, 2009 from 1:00 pm EDT until service time at 2:00 pm EDT with Rev. Zachary Rainey officiating. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Attica with full military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
