Phillip "Phil" White

Phillip “Phil” White age 77 of rural Williamsport, IN died on Sunday, May 29, 2016 Phil was born February 1939 in Marion County, IN and grew up in Zionsville as the son of Paul and Jewell Pearl White of Zionsville. He graduated from Eagle Township High School (now known as Zionsville High School) in 1957, followed by a bachelor’s degree in 1961, and a master’s degree in 1964, both from Butler University. He married Carolyn Cates on August 17, 1962 and they were married for 45 years until her passing in 2007. Phil and Carolyn met while teaching at Bluff Avenue School in Marion County and he also taught at Abraham Lincoln Elementary School in the same district. They moved to Kingman, IN when Phil took a teaching and coaching position at North Vermillion High School. The following year, in 1967, they moved to West Lebanon where Phil was initially a Biology teacher and Cross Country and Track coach at Seeger High School, then athletic director for many years, attendance officer, Jr. High Science and Biology teacher, and coach of various sports when needed. He retired after the 1997-98 school year, but continued as an assistant football coach for about 15 years after retirement. He was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in West Lebanon, where he was a Sunday school teacher and a former elder. He was a member of the Fountain & Warren Retired Teachers Association and a member of the Indiana Retired Teachers Association. He loved sports, especially Butler University basketball and football, and Seeger High School sports of any kind. He also enjoyed watching the Indianapolis Indians and the Chicago Bears. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his grandsons. Surviving are 2 sons, Robert “Bob” White (Wife: Dana) of Lafayette, IN, William “Bill” White (Wife: Tammy) of Houston, TX; 1 brother, Don White (Wife: Sue) of Indianapolis, IN; 1 sister, Sharon Delong of Zionsville, IN; 4 grandchildren, Keith White and Austin White both of Lafayette, IN, Phillip White and James White both of Houston, TX. Visitation will be at Trinity Presbyterian Church 301 S. Clinton Street in West Lebanon on Thursday, June 2nd from 3 pm to 7 pm. Services also at Trinity Presbyterian Church in West Lebanon on Friday, June 3rd at 3 pm, with visitation one hour prior. Rev. Dr. Roger Andrew McDaniel and Rev. David Lawrence will be officiating. Interment will be at Highland Cemetery in Williamsport. Memorial donations may be made to Trinity Presbyterian Church, 301 S. Clinton St., West Lebanon, IN or Warren County Community Foundation, 31 N. Monroe St., Williamsport, IN to a fund being established in the name of Phil and Carolyn White to benefit Seeger High School graduates pursuing post-secondary education..
