Melvin Lewis Morlan

Melvin Lewis Morlan, age 82 of Marshfield, died at 5:15 a.m. CDT on Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at the VA Illiana health care System, building 101 Ward 8 in Danville, IL where he has been a patient for the past 18 months. Melvin was born on March 12, 1927 in Marshfield, IN where he continued to be a lifelong resident. He was the son of Annas and Minerva Jane (Tanner) Morlan. He attended Marshfield school. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. One September 12, 1947 he married Laura Jane Crowder in Covington, IN. She survives. Melvin worked for Ross Gear TRW in Lafayette, IN for 31 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the Marshfield Presbyterian Church. He was known as “Mr. Fix It”. He enjoyed hunting, and watching basketball, especially Indiana University. His grandchildren were his special joy. Surviving with his wife, Jane, are, 2 daughters, Melody Ann Lindsey (husband: Dave) of Crestwood, KY and Gail Denise Muller (husband: Ron) of West Lafayette, IN; 1 sister, Evelyn Thompson of Marshfield, IN; and 2 grandchildren, Aaron Altman (girlfriend: Sara) and Laura Jean Lindsey. Melvin was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Mary Louise Hobaugh and Thelma Vibbert. Visitation will be at Grady Funeral Home in Williamsport on Friday, May 29, 2009 from 4:00- 8:00 p.m. EDT. Services will be there in the chapel on Saturday, May 30, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. EDT. Interment will be at West Lebanon Cemetery will full military honors.
