Carolyn L. (Astell) Hickman, age 89 of Covington, IN passed at 1:46 a.m. on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at her son’s home in Monon, IN surrounded by her family. Carolyn was born on July 28, 1927 in Marshfield, IN. She was the daughter of Oliver P. and Kathryn E. (Etnire) Astell. She was a 1945 graduate of West Lebanon High School. She married Lloyd Hickman in Marshfield, IN on August 18, 1945. He preceded her in death on February 11, 2013. She lived east of State Line, IN for many years before moving to Covington in 1973. Carolyn worked for Walgreen Accounting in Danville, IL for 13 years, retiring in 1987. She was a member of the Benson Chapel United Methodist Church and the Benson Chapel United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star Troy Chapter #145 receiving her 50 year pin. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and baking. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving are, 2 sons, Harold Hickman (wife: Susan) of Greenwood, IN and Kenneth Hickman (wife: Sharon) of Monon, IN; 1 daughter, Karen Auble (husband: Randall) of Indianapolis, IN; 2 brothers, Clair Astell (wife: Mildred) of Catlin, IL and Richard Astell (wife: Cherie) of West Lebanon, IN; 7 grandchildren, Scott Hickman (Dru), Amanda Higgins (Allen), Brad Hickman (Nikki), Jason Hickman (Stacey), Kyle Hickman (Tiffany), Melanie Magdalinos (Nick), and David Auble (Karuna Anantharaman); 11 great-grandchildren, Jacob Hickman, Connor Hickman, A.J. Higgins, Allie Higgins, Katelyn Fellows, Madelyn Fellows, Gabriella Magdalinos, Kayleigh Hickman, Blake Hickman, Cora Hickman, and Teddy Hickman; and a host of nieces and nephews. Carolyn was preceded in death by infant brother, David James Astell, brother, John O. Astell, and 1 grandson, James Robert Auble. Visitation will be at Benson Chapel United Methodist Church, 7114 W US Highway 136, Covington, IN on Sunday, March 26, 2017 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. EST with OES services at 6:45 p.m. Services will be there on Monday, March 27, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. EST with Pastor Christy Bennett officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Covington. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Benson Chapel United Methodist Church.
