Nancy A. (Taylor) Mikels, age 65 of Covington, went to be with her Lord unexpectedly on Saturday, September 5, 2009 at 8:36 pm CST at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.
Nancy was born on April 12, 1944 in Williamsport, IN. She was the daughter of Lonnie A. and Dorothy L. (Frazier) Taylor. She was a 1962 graduate of Seeger High School. On December 22, 1962 she married Richard L. “Dick” Mikels at the West Lebanon Church of the Nazarene. He survives. She was a Warren County resident most of her life. From 1963-1966 she and Richard resided in Glendale, AZ where he served in the Air Force and from 1971-1973 they resided in Joplin, MO.
A 5 year survivor of breast cancer, Nancy was a bookkeeper for different local businesses and was currently working at Health Claim Services in Danville. She was also a very caring homemaker. She was a member of the Second Church of Christ in Danville, IL and had been a previous member of the Antioch Church of Christ for many years. She enjoyed genealogy and reading. She especially enjoyed her grandkids and great-grandkids. The center of her life was her faith and her family.
Surviving with her husband, Richard of 47 years, are 4 daughters, Tonya Mikels of Covington, IN, Tasha Swank (husband: Scott) of Williamsport, IN, Teri Hancock (husband: Casey) missionaries near Mexico City, Mexico, and Tina Newland (husband: Brent) of Greencastle, IN; 1 brother, Ronald F. Taylor of Rockville, IN; 3 sisters, Shirley Dowling (husband: Ed) of Hoopeston, IL, Sharon Yoder (husband: the late Ron) of LaGrange, IN, and Kathy Martin (husband: Lloyd) of Wingate, IN; 9 grandchildren, Michaela Smith (husband: Levi) of West Lebanon, Mason Livingston of Hoopeston, IL, Kaelee and Kyle Swank, Elizabeth, Corbin and Ian Hancock, and Lucas and Savanna Newland; 3 great-grandchildren, Aleeha and Carter Smith; and Ella Rose Livingston; a very special mother-in-law, Helen (Ridge) Mikel of Rossville, IL; and very close brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters, twin Marilyn Kay and Beverly Jo, and father-in-law Roscoe Mikel.
Visitation will be at Grady Funeral Home in Williamsport, IN on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm EST (IN time). Services will be held at Second Church of Christ in Danville, IL on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at 10:00 am CST (IL time) with visitation 1 hour prior to service time. Minister Drew Mentzer will be officiating. Interment will be at Rossville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Second Church of Christ Mission Ministry or the Sharon L. Bassett Foundation.
