Oakwood - Frank Walter Patton, 74, of Oakwood, IL went to live with the Lord at 9:55 a.m. on April 24, 2010 surrounded by family and friends in his lake side home. Frank was born February 27, 1936 to Earl and Dorothy (Radcliffe) Patton in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Frank is survived by his wife of 42 years, the love of his life, Margaret; his daughter, Deena (Earl) Kissee of Montgomery; two grandsons Roger (Lisa) Coyne, Derek (Lacey) Coyne of Bloomington and his beautiful great grandchildren Shawn, Leela and Kaylee of Bloomington. Other survivors are mother-in-law, Beulah Vickers (Champaign), brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-laws, Dale (Dena) Vickers (California), Steve Vickers (Danielle) of Champaign, and Linda Heimburger (Champaign) and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving is his faithful dog companion, Princess.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Wayne and Jim, sister Mabel Etta Cudaback and two very special step children Paul and Teresa Stanley.
Frank retired from Sunbeam Bakery in Champaign at the young age of 50 after 35 years of service. He was a humble hard working man. He loved working in his beautiful yard and tinkering with his inventions in the garage. He was an avid NASCAR and Jeff Gordon fan. Frank loved tractors and collected John Deere items. He was a kind hearted giving husband and friend, willing to help anyone. Frank supported and loved his family. He knew no strangers. Frank will be sadly missed by all who truly knew and loved him. Now he can continue his close personal relationship with God.
Frank attended Community Church of God and most recently Cornerstone Christian Church. Frank will be cremated. A memorial celebration of his life will take place at Cornerstone Christian Church, 1607 Greenwood Cemetery Road, Danville, Illinois on Thursday, April 29, 2010 with family present at 1:00 and services at 2:00. Pastor Kevin Cox has been asked to officiate. A dinner will follow in the Community Room of the church. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Salvation Army. Grady Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
