Everett Earl Cronkhite, age 93 of West Lebanon died at 11:22 CST on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville, IL.
Everett was born in Pence, IN on March 17, 1917. He was the son of Samuel and Cora (Kidwell) Cronkhite. He attended Warren County schools. He was a lifelong resident of Warren County. He married Geraldine “Jerry” Elliott in 1946 in Covington and she preceded him in death on December 4, 1979. He later married Mildred (Brown) Hensley on May 8, 1985 and she preceded him in death on May 8, 1999.
Everett served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked on the railroad and retired as a custodian from the Seeger Memorial High School. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed taking rides in the country and gardening. Everett loved sports, especially Notre Dame football. He loved animals and wildlife and was a very giving person.
Surviving are, daughter, Jean Hambright (husband: Mike) of Covington, IN; 2 step-sons, David Keith (wife: Gwen) of Brownsburg, IN and Terry Keith (wife: Lois) of West Plains, MO; 7 grandchildren, Keith High, LeeAnn Sherman (husband: Kevin), Todd High (wife: Jessica), Brian High (wife: Angela), Michael Hambright (wife: Megan), Savanah Hambright, and Justin Hambright; 13 great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. Everett was preceded in death by his wives, “Jerry” and Mildred, 3 brothers, 6 sisters, and a granddaughter.
A memorial service will be held at Grady Funeral Home in West Lebanon on Monday, October 11, 2010 with the family receiving friends from 11:00 a.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m. David Keith will be officiating. Inurnment will be at West Lebanon Cemetery with full military honors. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Vermilion County Humane Society, 1225 Collett St., Danville, IL 61832.
