Frank D. Barrett, age 77 of Tab, IN died at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 4, 2010 at his residence.
Frank was born on May 3, 1933 near Boswell, IN. He was the son of Hollice and Jeannett (Goen) Barrett. He resided in the Boswell area for 46 years, graduating from Boswell High School in 1951 and later farmed with his father.
Frank served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956, 18 months stationed in Germany and one year in the active reserve upon being honorably discharged from the service. He married Velma Larch Robertson on August 13, 1979 in Indianapolis. She survives. They resided in Tab for 31 years until the time of his death.
Frank farmed for 28 years and also worked part time at Boswell Grain Elevator until 1984, at which time he became a full time employee, retiring in 2004. He enjoyed watching basketball, especially Purdue. Working crossword puzzles was one of his favorite hobbies. He was a member of the Attica Moose Lodge and enjoyed mushroom hunting. His yard and garden were his pride and joy.
Surviving with his wife, Velma, are, children, Tammy Barrett of Lafayette, Mike Barrett (wife: Donna) of Flora, Mark Barrett (wife: Dawn) of Boswell, Terry Barrett of Boswell, and Annette Barrett of Talbot; stepchildren, Deborah Robertson Zoch of Plainfield, Bruce Robertson of Indianapolis, and Steven Robertson of Kentland; brothers and sisters, Joe Barrett (wife: Elsie) of North Manchester, Hollis “Jack” Barrett (wife: Margaret) of West Lafayette, Tom Barrett of Boswell, Bill Barrett (wife: Jodi) of Pine Village and Stella Gillen of Brook; grandchildren, Jerame Slayton, Alicia (husband: Peter) Osborn, Travis Barrett, and Alicia Barrett; step-grandchildren, Meredith Zoch, Shauna Robertson, Robert D. Robertson, Amber Chaffee, and David Chaffee; great-grandchildren, Blain Slayton and Bryce Slayton; and step-great-grandchildren, Corbin Chaffee, Caidyn Veach, Spencer Chaffee, and Haley Thomas. Frank was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Cathy Slayton, and 5 sisters.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Locust Grove Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Southern Care Hospice.
