Alberta F. “Bertie” (Fetters) Lucas, age 83, went to be with the Lord at 7:10 a.m. CST on Monday, May 15, 2023 at Hawthorne Inn. Alberta was born on February 26, 1940 in Alvin, IL. She was the daughter of Milo & Minnie (Rudolph) Fetters. Alberta married Donald E. Lucas on July 3, 1960 and he survives. Also surviving are daughters, Kendra Lucas of Oklahoma City, OK and Deanne Raymer (Brian) of Carmel, IN; grandchildren, Brittany (White) Steele (Dylan) of Jacksonville, NC, Courtney White of Attica, IN, Tyler Raymer of Carmel, IN; great-grandchildren, Lincoln & Elijah Steele; brother, Harold Fetters (Sarah) of Danville, IL; and 2 sisters, Ruby Richardson (Harold) of Attica, IN and Freda Pollock (Mick) of Thornton, CO. Alberta was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Sandra White; and 4 brothers, Floyd Fetters (Viola), of Rossville, IL, Lowell Fetters (Laura Jean) of Alvin, IL, Earl Fetters (Bonnie) of Gilman, IL, and Dale Fetters (Phyllis) of Rossville, IL. Alberta attended Alvin grade school and graduated from Rossville High School. She graduated from Danville Beauty School and worked at Meis as a hairdresser until the birth of her first child. While her children were growing up she was a homemaker, room mother at Warren Central Grade School, taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, and also did hair part time at home. Alberta reentered the workforce as a beautician at Woodland Manor Nursing Home in Attica. After living briefly in Florida, they returned back to Indiana where she and her husband went to work at Payton’s BBQ in Veedersburg. She later worked at Steel Grip until her retirement. Alberta enjoyed doing crafts, making afghans, and crocheting. She especially enjoyed spending time with her husband and traveling with him. Alberta enjoyed getting together with friends, especially playing cards and dominoes. She loved her grandchildren, family, and friends. Alberta always attended all of her children’s and grandchildren’s school events and activities. While living in Indiana, Alberta attended West Lebanon Christian Church. When she moved to Rossville, IL they began attending the Rossville Church of Christ. Visitation will be at Grady Funeral Home in Williamsport on Saturday, May 20, 2023 from noon until service time at 2:00 p.m. with Ministers Bruce Thornsbrough and Kevin Purdy officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Covington. Memorial contributions may be made to West Lebanon Christian Church or Rossville Church of Christ.
