Carla Marie Bever, age 84 of Monticello, IN, and former Warren County resident, died at 7:20 p.m. on Friday, June 8, 2018 at Lakeview Village Senior Living in Monticello, IN. Carla was born in Williamsport, IN on October 4, 1933. She was the daughter of Carl and Fairy (Brown) Bever. She lived in Warren County until moving to Monticello, IN where she has resided since 1969. She was a 1951 graduate of Williamsport High School, and went on to attend Purdue University where she graduated with a degree in Agriculture Economics in 1957. Upon graduation Carla worked at the Purdue Library until 1961. She then worked at the Jasper County Welfare Department until 1966, and the Newton County Welfare Department from 1966-1968. Carla then worked at the White County Welfare Department from 1969 until 1989. She worked at the White County Family Service office from 1994 until her retirement in 2003. Carla was a dedicated member of the First Presbyterian Church in Monticello where she sang in the choir. She was a fanatical Purdue Boilermakers fan, and especially enjoyed Purdue football. She also enjoyed cross-stitching, knitting and was an avid reader especially romance novels. She enjoyed Charles Schulz Peanuts and was a Tom Selleck fan. She loved her cats. Surviving are, 1 sister, Rosemary Thomas of Lafayette, IN; 1 niece, Andrea Kay Hammersley (husband: Richard) of Peru, IN; 1 nephew, Randall Wayne Hillyer (wife: Cathy) of Lafayette, IN; 3 great-nephews, Tony Hillyer (wife: Misty), Rev. Jason Hammersley (wife: Susan), and Brad Hammersley (wife: Jan); several great-great nieces and nephews; and special friends, Tim McQuinn and Judy Bertram, both of Monticello, IN. Carla was preceded in death by her parents, brother, S. Wayne Hillyer; sister-in-laws, Norma D. (Clawson) Hillyer and Clara Lee (Clark) Hillyer; and 1 brother-in-law, Leroy Thomas. The family would like to extend special thanks to Lakeview Village Senior Living staff for their exceptional care. Visitation will be Thursday, June 14, 2018 at Grady Funeral Home in Williamsport, IN from 11:00 a.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m. with Pastors John Wright and Brandan Eddy officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery in Williamsport, IN.
