Donald Lee Hensley

Donald Lee Hensley, age 87, of West Lebanon, IN passed away at 11:36 a.m. on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital.

Donald was born on April 20, 1933 in Williamsport, IN. He was the son of Clifford Raymond and Mildred (Brown) Hensley. He attended West Lebanon schools and was a life long Warren County resident. Donald married Linda Leming on March 21, 1960 in Urbana, IL and she survives. They were married for 60 years and lived those years together in the house they built in West Lebanon, IN.

Donald served in the United States Air Force for 4 years from 1952-1956. He worked at the VA Hospital in Danville, IL where he started as a nursing assistant before working as an electrician. He retired after 33 years. Donald was also a volunteer fireman for the West Lebanon Fire Department for 19 years. After retiring he continued to work by helping local farmers and doing other odd jobs.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, mushrooming, gardening, and mowing. He was known to share tomatoes, cucumbers and squash that he grew every year. In the summertime he could be found on his mower and in the winter time you could find him on his tractor plowing snow. He was a worker bee who always could find a project that needed done.

Surviving with his wife, Linda are,

5 children: Rhonda Hensley of Honey Brook, Pennsylvania; Donny “Hotch” Hensley (Lexi) of Pine Village, IN; Joey Hensley (Kathy) of Oxford, IN; Ranee Smith (Bill Shields) of Oxford; and Tina Houchens (Don Hurt) of Hedrick, IN;

1 sister Judy Hunt of Dayton, TX;

6 grandchildren: Lindsay Hensley, Nicole Huckaby (Dakota), Caleb Boyer, Brandon Boyer, Trevor Hensley (Kelcie), and Matthew Dixon;

2 great-grandchildren: Garrett Boyer and Eliana Hensley.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John Hensley, and sister Barbara Bowers; along with twin daughters Mona and Jenny.  Private graveside services will be held at West Lebanon Cemetery with full military honors.
