Donald E. “Don” Lucas, age 89, went to be with the Lord at 9:52 CST on Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at Heritage Health in Hoopeston, IL.
Don was born on August 16, 1934 in Williamsport, IN. He was the son of Lloyd and Olive Oveta (Evans) Lucas. Don married Alberta F. Fetters on July 3, 1960 and she preceded him in death on May 15, 2023. Also surviving are daughters, Kendra Lucas of Oklahoma City, OK and Deanne Raymer (Brian) of Carmel, IN; son-in-law, Kenny White; grandchildren, Brittany (White) Steele (Dylan) of Jacksonville, NC, Courtney White of Attica, IN, Tyler Raymer of Carmel, IN; great-grandchildren, Lincoln & Elijah Steele; sister, Marilyn Payton of Williamsport, IN; niece, Pam Rademacher; nephews, Scott Payton and Tom Payton.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and daughter, Sandra White.
Don was a 1953 graduate of West Lebanon High School. He worked as a State Farm Insurance Agent serving Warren County. He then worked at Fairfield in Lafayette, IN. Don later owned and operated Lucas Excavating and Asphalt Paving.
Don grew up living in the Warren County area and after living briefly in Florida with his wife Alberta, they returned to Indiana and he delivered Payton’s Barbecue in Veedersburg until his retirement.
Don loved cars, being on the farm, and tending to the farm animals. He especially enjoyed spending time with his wife and traveling with her, especially visiting Branson, MO and Florida. Don was a people person who never met a stranger, he loved to talk with everyone he met.
While living in Indiana, Don attended West Lebanon Christian Church. When he moved to Rossville, IL he began attending the Rossville Church of Christ.
Visitation will be at Grady Funeral Home in Williamsport on Thursday, February 15, 2024 from noon until service time at 2:00 p.m. with Ministers Bruce Thornsbrough and Kevin Purdy officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Covington. Memorial contributions may be made to West Lebanon Christian Church or Rossville Church of Christ.
