Ernest “Ernie” LeRoy Bahrns, age 76 of rural Williamsport, IN passed away at 2:15 a.m. on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at his residence. Ernie was born on November 9, 1940 in State Line, IN. He was the son of Frank and Laura (Brandenburg) Bahrns. He married Roberta E. Umphryes on April 10, 1965 and she survives. Ernie graduated from West Lebanon High School in 1959. Upon graduation, he worked at Olins in Covington before joining the US Army Reserves. He also worked for Golden Oil Company for 10 years. His true passion was the love for farming which he did with his dad and later his son until he retired in December 2015 due to his failing health. Besides his love for farming, you would see him in the pasture with his second love, raising cattle. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren, where you would always see him being one of their biggest fans. Ernie was a member of the State Line Christian Church where he had many lifelong friends. He was a member of the Fountain F & AM Lodge #60 and the Scottish Rite of Danville, IL. Surviving with his wife, Roberta, are children, E. Dean Bahrns (wife: Jill) of Williamsport, IN and Vicki Haddock (husband: Don) of Crawfordsville, IN; sister, Ruth Kendrick (husband: Ken) of Martinsville, IN; grandchildren, Lindsey Winger (husband: Caleb) of Pine Village, IN, Tristan and Preston Bahrns both of Williamsport, IN, Lindsey Haddock (fiancée: Evan) of Veedersburg, IN, Alexander Haddock of Las Vegas, NV, and Harrison Haddock of Crawfordsville, IN; and 1 great-granddaughter, Houston Winger. Ernie was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Elsie Brown, and an infant son, Darren LeRoy Bahrns. The family would like to give a special thanks to DSI in Lafayette, to all the nurses and Dr. Al-Makki and Amy Allspaw, and IU Health Hospice, especially Terri McKeighen for their wonderful care. Visitation will be at Grady Funeral Home in Williamsport, IN on Monday, November 6, 2017 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. with F & AM services at 7:45 p.m. Services will be there in the chapel on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with Ministers Jerry Burt and Bob Cornell officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Danville, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to the Warren County 4-H Fair Board Beef.
