Esthel Meredith Petro, age 89 of West Lebanon, IN, went to be with the Lord at 5:50 p.m. on Sunday, July 29, 2018 at Williamsport Nursing & Rehabilitation. Esthel was born in West Lebanon, IN on August 6, 1928. He was the son of Easter Irene (Reynolds) Petro. He attended West Lebanon schools and was a life long West Lebanon resident. Esthel married Virginia Lee Asbury on December 18, 1947 in West Lebanon and she survives. Esthel proudly served in the U.S. Air Force and was an entrepreneur, serving as an integral part of building and establishing several homes and businesses in West Lebanon. He was a member of the West Lebanon Christian Church and rang the bell every Sunday. Esthel was best known for owning and operating Petro’s Truck Stop. He also served as a past fire chief, town marshal, and president of the town board of West Lebanon. Esthel earned his pilot’s license and owned his own plane. He was a workaholic for both the town of West Lebanon and for his family. In his free time, he enjoyed doing puzzles. Surviving with his wife Virginia are, Children, Cheryl Diane Petro-Pyle (husband: Joe), Deborah Parliament (husband: Michael), Charles Ralph Petro, and April Easter Petro, brother, Richard “Dick” Lewis Petro; double niece, Shirley Thornton; grandchildren, Greg Lierman, Stefanie Pratt, Melody Petro, Jenayah Shuman, James Petro, and Meredith Petro; and 2 great-grandchildren, Hunter and Dalton. Esthel was preceded in death by his mother and double sister-in-law, Billie Maxine Petro. There will be a Celebration of Life held at the West Lebanon Christian Church Family Life Center, 201 S. Clinton Street, West Lebanon, IN 47991 on August 11, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Interment will be at the West Lebanon Cemetery at a later date.
