George Robert Van Pelt, age 59 of Pence, IN died at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at his residence after a brief battle with cancer. George was born in Danville, IL on May 27, 1958. He was the son of Marion Lewis Van Pelt and Virginia Ann (White) Dunbar. He attended Lafayette schools where he had resided most of his life until moving to Pence 5 years ago. He married Theresa Loy and they later divorced. He then married Linda Glaze and she preceded him in death. George worked as a union roofer for Local #233. He also was a mechanic and an all around handyman. He attended Harvest Chapel in Williamsport, IN. He loved horses. He liked to tinker, especially with cars, and liked to watch westerns. George enjoyed all the children in the Van Pelt family. Surviving are, mother, Virginia Dunbar of Lafayette, IN; soulmate, Elizabeth A. Dillman and her daughter, Rebecca Dillman of Pence, IN; siblings, Allen Van Pelt of Clarks Hill, IN, Mary Ann Denny of Monticello, IN, Kay Louise Eldridge (Eugene) of Lafayette, IN, Jonathan Leroy Van Pelt of Williamsport, IN, David Wayne Van Pelt of Crawfordsville, IN, and Alice Jean Tyner (James) of Veedersburg, IN; 2 sisters-in-law, Diane Van Pelt of Clarks Hill, IN and Cheryl Gallien of Clarks Hill, IN; 18 nieces & nephews; and several great nieces & nephews. George was preceded in death by his father, Marion Van Pelt, brother, Randy Dean Van Pelt, and son, George Robert Van Pelt, Jr. Visitation will be at Grady Funeral Home on Friday, January 26, 2018 from noon until service time at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at West Lebanon Cemetery.
