Golden “Dale” Nern, age 94 of rural Ambia, IN, passed away on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at Green Hill Manor in Fowler, IN.
Dale was born on September 19, 1927 at home in rural Ambia. He was the son of Charles and Priscilla Nern.
Dale grew up in rural Ambia the son of a farmer. He graduated from Boswell High School. He served in the Army Air Corps for 3 years during WWII. Dale returned from the service where he farmed for 42 years. He married Edna Mae Krebs on January 9, 1949 and they were married for 73 years.
Dale was proud to have served his country and was an active member of the Boswell American Legion Post 476 for 47 years. He served as adjutant for 32 of those years. He was a life-time member of the Attica VFW Post 3318. Dale was a member of the 40 and 8 Group 755 for 16 years. His favorite pastime in later years was any activity with the American Legion and 40 and 8.
Dale and Edna loved bowling, playing Santa, fishing, and playing cards. Dale also loved painting pictures. Most of all he loved people and socializing with them.
Dale served on the township advisory board for 20 years and treasurer of the Locust Grove Cemetery Board for 53 years. He was an active member of the Tab Church of Christ where he served as a deacon.

Son, James Nern (Sandy) of Somonauk, IL;
Son-in-law, Rick Moore (Rachel) of Otterbein, IN;
Grandchildren, Ashley Deery (John), Katherine Nagel (Matt), Kaley Long, Clint Moore (Bailey), and Hillary Eltzroth (Austin);
Great-grandchildren, Sawyer Deery, Maximus Deery, Sydney Long, Knox Moore, Hank Moore, Briar Moore, Korbin Eltzroth, and Kensley Eltzroth
Dale was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Shelley Moore; brother, John D. Nern; and daughter-in-law, Lori (Drennan) Nern.
Dale will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
Visitation will be at Grady Funeral Home in Williamsport, IN on Monday, May 2, 2022 from 12:00 p.m. until service time at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Rod Andrews officiating. Interment will follow with full military honors at Locust Grove Cemetery in Ambia. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tab Church of Christ or 40 and 8 Nursing Scholarship Group 755 where a nursing scholarship will be given in his name.
