John McCord Swanson, age 85 of Williamsport, IN, went to be with the Lord at 1:30 a.m. on September 24, 2021 at Autumn Trace in Attica.
John was born on May 24, 1936, the son of Roy McCord Swanson and Flossie Emma (Fink) Swanson, near Attica, IN. He was a lifelong resident of Warren County and graduated from Williamsport High School in 1954. He married his sweetheart Donna Kay Worley on June 10, 1956.
John was a member of the Williamsport Christian Church and a Liberty Township Trustee. He found joy in being an active member of his community. John’s love for the Lord was mirrored in the intentionality and compassion he had for every one he met. He served as a Warren County bus driver for many years. As a grain farmer, some of John’s passions included annual thrashing reunions and a love of antique farm equipment.
John is survived by 3 daughters: Melynda Leak (Jim) of Williamsport, IN, Melyssa Leak (Mike), of Ambia, IN, Melanie Swanson of Lafayette, IN, and a daughter-in-law, Shelby Cox, and a husband Bill of Lafayette, IN;
3 siblings: Mary Jane Baer of West Lafayette, IN, Charles “Bud” Swanson of Eutah, AL, and Tom Swanson (Carolyn) of rural Attica, IN;
6 grandchildren: Zachary Swanson, Kimberly Leak, Leslie (Gosling) & David Leak, Jacob & Adam Swanson;
2 great grandchildren: Levi Swanson and ChloéGosling
John was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Donna; 1 son, John McCord Swanson Jr. (Mac), 1 sister, Carolyn Snider; 2 brothers-in-law, Norman Baer and Albert Snider; and 1 sister-in-law, Pat Swanson.
Visitation will be at the Williamsport Christian Church on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. until service time at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Brenda McIntosh, Minister Jesse Stoner, and Chaplain Rick Fay officiating. Interment will follow at Chenoweth Cemetery near the old Warren County home. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Williamsport Christian Church or the Illiana Antique Power Association.
