Larry J. Turner, age 78 of Williamsport, IN passed away at 11:20 p.m. on Wednesday, January 31, 2018, at Franciscan Health Lafayette East, surrounded by his loving family after battling pulmonary fibrosis. Larry was born in Indianapolis, IN on April 20, 1939. He was the son of Joseph E. and Evelyn M. (Sanneman) Turner. He lived in Vincennes as a child and later moved to Williamsport where he was a 1959 Williamsport High School graduate. He married Dennie Odle on May 27,1961 in rural Williamsport. Larry served in the United States Army from 1962-1964. He later worked for Harrison Steel Casting Company as a store room clerk, the U.S. Postal Service as a rural carrier, Birkeys Farm Store in Williamsport as a “gopher”, and was a life long part-time farm hand for John and Mac Swanson. Larry was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Church in Attica. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #259 in Williamsport and enjoyed spending time with the Carbondale Coffee Drinkers. He served as a volunteer fireman for the town of Williamsport for several years. He was an all around handyman and a jack-of-all trades. He especially loved and was proud of his family. Surviving are,Wife, Dennie Turner of Williamsport, INChildren, Jerry Turner (wife: Velma) of Williamsport, IN, Ron Turner (wife: Rosie) of Williamsport, IN, and Shelby Swanson-Cox (husband: Bill) of Lafayette, INSiblings, John Turner (wife: Donna) of Star, ID and Trish Stanford of Oklahoma City, OK6 grandchildren, Ashley Haworth, Victor Turner, Morgan Turner, Janessa Turner, Jacob Swanson, and Adam Swanson6 great-grandchildrenLarry was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Michael R. Turner and his wife, Sharon, son-in-law, Mac Swanson, and brother-in-law, Mike Stanford. Visitation will be at Grady Funeral Home in Williamsport on Sunday, February 4, 2018 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. Services will be at the funeral home on Monday, February 5, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Don Williams officiating. Inurnment with military honors will be at Highland Cemetery in Williamsport, IN at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Williamsport Volunteer Fire Department.
