Lowell Leroy VanLeer, age 80, of Williamsport, IN passed away at 11:41 a.m. on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at Ascension Williamsport Hospital.
Lowell was born on April 17, 1940, Warren County, IN to Herbert Leroy VanLeer & Selma Ella (Kincade) VanLeer. Lowell attended all 12 years of elementary & high school at Williamsport, Indiana graduating from Williamsport High School in 1958. Lowell & Donna Lynn Jones were married on November 17, 1962. She survives. Lowell joined the United States Navy after he graduated, where he served on the USS Newport News until May 1962. Lowell was a retired truck driver. He and his wife Donna loved traveling in their RV all over the U.S. after retirement.. He was a Diehard Cubs and Purdue Boilermaker fan and he loved all sports. He was a pitcher for a semi-pro baseball team. Lowell coached little league baseball with Jerry Shoaf, Sr. He loved to go fishing and mushrooming.
Lowell was the happiest when any of his family walked in the door.
Surviving with his wife, Donna are, Children, Marty VanLeer, Rusty VanLeer (Chantell), Missy Wilson (number one son-in-law, Jeff), and Dirk VanLeer (Stephenie) all of Williamsport. Grandchildren, Clint Wilson (Jessica) of Lafayette, IN, Zach Wilson (Jessica) of Pine Village, IN, Jasmine VanLeer of Lafayette, IN, Abigail VanLeer, Emily VanLeer, Anthony Wilson, Eli VanLeer, and Katie VanLeer all of Williamsport, IN. Great-grandchildren, Myles Elliott Wilson, Harper Jane Wilson, Cohen Tyler Wilson, Preston Hill, Carter Hill, Cash Edenburn, and Baby Wilson coming in July. Sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Beverlie VanLeer, Wynn Jones (Bev), Launa Jones and Deb Jones. Aunts & uncles, Richard Kincade, Retha VanLeer, and Gary Jones (Laura). Very special cousins & best friends, Cindy & Larry Engelkes. Lowell’s special caregiver, Michelle Lynn “Chelle”Atha. Several special cousins, nieces and nephews.
Lowell was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Charles Donald VanLeer, and brother in law, John C. Jones (the barber).
The family would like to thank the staff at Ascension Williamsport Hospital for the wonderful care that Lowell received.
A graveside service with full military honors will be held on June 26, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Highland Cemetery with Pastor Brenda Macintosh officiating.
