Richard Dean Spivey, age 84 of Williamsport, IN, long-time resident of West Lebanon, IN, passed away at 9:25 a.m. on Thursday, May 6, 2021 at Franciscan Health in Lafayette, IN, surrounded by his loving family. Richard was born on September 5, 1936 in Portland Arch, IN. He was the son of Jasper S. and Gladys L. (White) Spivey. Richard was a 1955 graduate of West Lebanon High School. He lived in West Lebanon, IN for most of his life before moving to Williamsport, IN where he had resided for the past 26 years. Richard married Paulette Ann Hannon on July 4, 1959 in Sterling, IN and she survives. Richard worked as a welder at Harrison Steel Casting Company in Attica, IN, Burger Steel in Lafayette, IN, and later Hyster in Danville, IL. He was an over the road truck driver for many years before his retirement in 1992. Richard loved collecting coins and American Indian collectibles. He enjoyed playing cards, solving crossword puzzles, and doing American Indian puzzles. When he had his CB radio, his handle was “night-owl”. Surviving with his wife, Paulette, 7 children, Richard Wayne Spivey (Colleen) of West Lafayette, IN, Jeffrey Bryan Spivey of West Lebanon, IN, Michael Shane Spivey (Tammy) of Veedersburg, IN, and Darren Andrew Spivey (Kristy) of Attica, IN; Kimberly Ann Spivey of Attica, IN, and twins, Jason Travis Spivey (Leslie) of Williamsport, IN and James Stewart Spivey of Williamsport, IN; 1 sister, Shirley Kay Abernathy-Curry of South Carolina; 15 grandchildren and numerous step-grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and 2 on the way Richard was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Kathryn Connell and Janice Pritchard; brother, Sam Abernathy; and great-grandson, Cutter Cash Spivey. Visitation will be at Grady Funeral Home in Williamsport from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, May 10, 2021. Funeral services will be there at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 with Pastor Harold Varner officiating. Interment will follow at West Lebanon Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or American Lung Association.
