Ruth left this world peacefully and was celebrated home to be with the Lord on March 4th, 2023 at the age of 93 years. She was born to H. Lowell and Gertrude L. (Weaver) Foster in Crawfordsville, Indiana on August 6, 1929. They, with her older sister, Margaret, lived in Switz City, Indiana until Ruth was age 9 when they moved to Boswell, Indiana. She graduated from Boswell High School in 1947. She then went to Indiana Teachers College, now Indiana State University. Her friend, Genet Booth, had a brother, Gene, who was in the Army in Japan. Genet wrote to her brother and said, “I have a girl for you when you get home”. Gene and Ruth were married June 19, 1949. Gene was a farmer and they lived in the same house on the Booth Farm all those years. They raised 4 children in that home and though small, it was filled with lots of love and happiness. Once their youngest went to school, Ruth went to work. She was Warren County Deputy Treasurer for 8 years, she was the Warren County Treasurer for 8 years, and finally Warren County Deputy Auditor for 2 years. During that time she was involved in fund raisers, notably the GOP in Style fashion show, for several years. Not one to sit idle, Ruth began catering. She catered for all types of events and had family and friends to help. She was a wonderful cook and was known for her generous portions. By the time Ruth retired from catering, she had several grandkids to keep her happy. She enjoyed taking them on adventures such as Turkey Run, Fair Oaks Dairy, or just a trip to the local swimming pool. She always was ready for FUN. Some of the biggest adventures were with Gene. Ruth and Gene traveled a lot over the years, some of their favorite places were Michigan and Texas. They spent several winters in South Padre Island, Texas, making friends, enjoying the scenery, the food and Texas way of life. Ruth was a member of the Rainsville Community Church and then in later years Armstrong Chapel. She served however she could, teaching Sunday School, helping with Communion, helping with meals. She and her dear friends, Carol Hurst and Marilyn Jo Dillman led Vacation Bible School for many summers where the Rainsville Community kids could count on Bible stories, cookies, Kool-Aid, and fun! Ruth will be lovingly remembered by her four children, Michael Booth (Rhonda), Becci Hamilton (Bob), Tim Booth (Ann), and Angela Smith (Eric). Also celebrating her life are 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. Taking up the glad cry “Here she is!” with Jesus is her loving husband Melvin Eugene “Gene” Booth, her parents Lowell and Gertrude, and her “sisser” Margaret Lorenzo. Since Ruth lived a long life, there are many who have gone before her whom are greeting her with open arms. No good-byes, for we will meet again. Visitation will be held at Grady Funeral Home, 111 E Monroe St, Williamsport, IN 47993 on Saturday, March 11, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. until funeral service time at 2:30 p.m. with Pastor Cathy McCoy officiating. Interment will follow at Rainsville Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.gradyfuneralhome.com.
