Thomas Everett “Tom” Pence of Williamsport, IN, age 81, passed away at 9:03 a.m. on Sunday, August 5, 2018 at Autumn Trace of Attica.
Tom was born May 17, 1937 at Danville, IL to the late Ernest Everett and Udorah (Coon) Pence. A resident of Warren County his entire life, he graduated from Williamsport High School in 1955. After graduating he worked at Olin Mathison in Covington while helping his dad farm and raise sheep and cattle. He married Peggy Nelson on February 27, 1959 and she survives. After his father’s death in 1973, he and his wife farmed together until he retired in 1999.
Tom worked at Boswell Livestock Commission for 22 years and helped at the Warren County Fair, served as a 4-H leader, and loved working and helping the kids with their sheep and cattle. He was a little league coach and volunteer girls basketball coach at Boswell. Tom was a member of Locust Grove United Methodist Church. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports, raising and feeding cattle and watching Purdue basketball.
Surviving with his wife, Peggy, are 3 children, Daniel (Ellen) Pence of Williamsport, Debra (Jim) Bird of Noblesville, and Deanna (Bob) Abel of Carmel; brother-in-law, Jim Long of Sullivan, IN; 6 grandchildren, Cassie (David) Hiday, Kaitlin (Ryan) Nigh, Sean (Shayla) Pence, Sarah (Matt) Miller and twins Greg and Abby Abel; 6 great-grandchildren, identical twins, Matthew and Mark Hiday, Reagan, Josephine, and Beau Nigh, and Madeleine Miller. He was preceded in death by parents, Ernest and Udorah Pence, step-mother, Millie DeMotte Pence Springman, and sister, Becky Long.
Visitation will be at Grady Funeral Home in Williamsport on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Services will be Thursday, August 9, 2018 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until service time, at the Locust Grove United Methodist Church, 8362 N 600 W, Ambia, IN 47917 with Rev. Charles B. Anderson officiating. Interment will follow at Jordan Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Locust Grove United Methodist Church, Parkinson’s Foundation, or Great Lakes Hospice.
