Walter Dale Simonton

August 10, 1940 — May 3, 2020

Walter Dale Simonton, age 79 of Williamsport, IN, passed away at 4:47 p.m. on Sunday, May 3, 2020 at Williamsport Nursing & Rehabilitation.

 

Walter was born on August 10, 1940 near West Lebanon, IN. He was the son of Howard and Eula (Gross) Simonton. Walter was a life-long Warren County resident. He attended Pine Village schools. Walter married Donna M. (White) Simonton on April 18, 1964 at the Galloway Chapel. She preceded him in death on October 26, 2016.

 

Walter served in the United States Army from 1961 until 1964 and received his diploma during that time. Following his military service, he worked at Harrison Steel for 14 years. He later worked at Tee-Pak until retiring in 2003.

 

Walter was a member of the Attica Christian Church where he served as a deacon. He enjoyed studying genealogy. Walter loved working on lawn mowers and tractors.

 

Surviving are,

4 Children, Sheila Sharp of Speedway, IN, Debbie Merrill (Ron) of Goldsboro, NC, Penny Simonton of Washington Courthouse, OH, and Walter “Scott” Simonton (Jennifer) of Williamsport, IN;

2 Sisters, Patricia Babb of Glascow, KY and Lameta Smart (Jim) of Brazil, IN;

16 Grandchildren;

5 Great-grandchildren

 

Walter was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Donna; brothers, Richard Simonton and Charles Simonton; grandchildren, Jordan Baer; Baby Simonton and Baby Merrill; and son-in-law, Richard Sharp.

 

Due to the current COVID-19 circumstances, private services will be held at Grady Funeral Home in Williamsport on Friday, May 8, 2020 with Minister Bruce Thornsbrough officiating. Interment will be at West Lebanon Cemetery with full military honors.
