Wilma Louise (Smith) Overpeck

June 30, 1920 — May 19, 2022

Wilma Louise (Smith) Overpeck, of West Lebanon, IN, age 101, went to be with her Lord and Savior at 7:15 a.m. on Thursday, May 19, 2022 at Autumn Trace in Attica, IN where she had resided for the past 5 years.

Louise was born on June 30, 1920 in Bismarck, IL.  She was the daughter of Lee R. and Lola (Claypool) Smith.  She was a 1938 graduate of West Lebanon High School. She later attended business school in Lafayette, IN. Louise had been a Warren County resident for most of her life after moving from Bismarck, IL at the age of 8.  Louise married Robert “Bob” Lee Overpeck on June 30, 1946. He preceded her in death on July 3, 2013.

Louise worked at the War Rations Office, the Williamsport ASCS, the welfare office in the Warren County Courthouse, and retired from the Danville VA Hospital as a medical transcriber in 1985.  She was a member of the West Lebanon Christian Church where she was an active member of the women’s Bible Study.  Louise also had attended the Walnut Corner Church of Christ during her childhood until the family moved to West Lebanon. She enjoyed her daily Bible study and shared her faith with others every day. Louise was an active member of the Warren County Extension Homemakers.  She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed playing piano. Bob and Louise loved going to auctions together and having garage sales. Louise was a gifted story-teller, friend to everyone, and loved by many.

Children, Curt Overpeck (Carol) of Jacksonville, FL, Jane Haddock (Randy) of Warren County, IN and daughter-in-law, Gloria (Fisher) Showalter of Carmel, IN;

Siblings, Joyce Marble (Jim) of Robinson, IL and Donald Smith (Joyce) of Bismarck, IL;

Sister-in-law, Pat Claypool of Danville, IL;

Brother-in-law, Boyd Crone of Tab, IN;

Grandchildren, Jill Haddock-Eberly, Amanda Haddock, Matthew Overpeck (Shannon Harper), and Elizabeth Overpeck

Great-grandson, Conor Eberly

 

Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, son, Lee Robert Overpeck, siblings, Virginia Crone, Marie Goodrick, Robert Smith, Lowell Smith, and baby sister, Imogene Smith. 

 

Visitation will be at West Lebanon Christian Church on Monday, May 23, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m. with Minister Bruce Thornsbrough officiating. Interment will follow at West Lebanon Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hanging Rock Christian Assembly.
